Soul

Tao Te Ching Chapter 10-1
Body soul and Spirit soul
Can you make the body soul and the spirit soul embrace Tao? (Ch.10)

♦  ♦  ♦

Some people say that this indicates a certain way to breathe in order to reach Tao.

Deep breathing may bring back your attention from social engagements to physical awareness.

That is good, to some extent, but too much awareness of your body is not really beneficial.

"Your body, as well as your mind and the society around you, is like clouds and flowers", Zen master Dogen may say.

I guess Lao Tzu might agree with him.

Tao Te Ching Chapter 10-2
Body, Spirit, Tao
And can you make the body soul and the spirit soul keep Tao with them?

(Ch.10)

♦  ♦  ♦

The Chinese used to think that, when one goes the way of all flesh, his spirit soul goes up to heaven and the body soul descends into earth.

Old sayings are not all the time guiding us to a better understanding.

Here, I see the dichotomy between body and soul. Are they different?

If you think so, they are. But, the idea makes you a little more difficult to be one with Tao.

Supple
Can you concentrate energy and be supple? (Ch.10)

♦  ♦  ♦

Being supple is quite important in Taoism.

This is, of course, related to the acceptance of all.

Fight. Be tough. Fix. Be dominant. All these expressions seem to have better connotations than "supple".

We fight for peace, don't we?

But, is fighting peaceful?

Being supple is, in fact, a powerful tool to change the world.

It is called Dark Depth Female.

Like a baby
And can you be like a baby? (Ch.10)

♦  ♦  ♦

A baby is a good example to be one with Tao.

He doesn't judge. He doesn't discern the good from the evil.

His attitude is exactly like the state of water.

Mirror of Dark Depth
Can you clean the mirror of Dark Depth? (Ch.10)

♦  ♦  ♦

Let's decode this.

It means, "Keep off your hologram".

Japanese Zen Master Dogen says:

Polish a tile and make a mirror.

[Note]

In the old days it must have been very difficult to explain holography without using the word.

Zen Master Dogen borrowed the word Genzo 眼蔵 (gen 眼 [eye], zo 蔵 [storage]).

I personally think that this is a wonderful metaphor to describe what a hologram in the mind is.

Some Buddhists use another beautiful metaphor of the dewdrops reflecting the moonlight.

When you polish your hologram, you can remember that you are always one with Tao.
