Chuang Tzu’s maxim

Tao Te Ching Chapter 17-1
The highest
The highest is the one that the lower ones don't know of.

(Ch.17)

♦  ♦  ♦

Some people think that Lao Tzu is talking about politics here.

But it is quite unlikely that he talks about it while he knows people and its politics are part of his hologram.

In this sentence, he talks about how one can treat his hologram.

Of course, the best way is not to let the people know that you are the one who creates the hologram.

KEYWORDS

"Lao Tzu's «Tao Te Ching» is too scanty. I want something with more detail!" "How about Zen Master Dogen's «Shobogenzo»?" "Oh, no, it's too bulky. Besides, it is too abstract. I can't use his teachings in life!" "Well, I've got a perfect book for you. It is neither too bulky nor scanty. It is relatively pragmatic." "What is that?" "«Chuang Tzu». It you don't have much time, you can read only «The Inner Chapters», but there are many interesting things to learn in the other chapters, too." "For example?" "Did you like the passage you read at Tao by Matsumoto video blog 42-8 Chuang Tzu's teachings?" "Yes, I did. It is about the creation of the hologram." "You can find the passage in «The Outer Chapters» of «Chuang Tzu»."

Tao Te Ching Chapter 17-2
The second highest
The second highest is the one that they are familiar with and praise. (Ch.17)

♦  ♦  ♦

If you can love all the world without being obsessed with it, it could be even better than the former.

Having said that, the misunderstanding of the word "Love" is a classical theme of discussion.

Obviously, many people think that to love someone is to virtually colonize him, saying, "I give everything, so he has to be mine".

Love is not possession at all.

Because of this risk, loving your hologram could be the second best in Taoism.

On the other hand, gratitude doesn't have any risk.

It is one of the best forms of Love.

Say "Thank you".

[Note]

Shinran Shonin 親鸞上人 , the founder of Jodo Shin shu Buddhism (Pure land shin shu Buddhism), not Zen, asked his believers to site prayers not to become a buddha but to thank Buddha.

Tao Te Ching Chapter 17-3
An awesome ruler
The next is the one that they are afraid of. (Ch.17)

♦  ♦  ♦

Looking at your hologram with awe is better than despising it or complaining about it.

But being afraid of the world is not good at all.

No matter how menacing your world looks at present, it is there to be a catalyst or a trigger.

Giving you a hard time is not its goal.

Tao Te Ching Chapter 17-4
The worst ruler
The next is the one that they despise.

(Ch.17)

♦  ♦  ♦

Don't despise the world and other people.

Don't complain about

them.

It is like complaining about stars and flowers.

It is resistance.

It is a waste of energy.

You are blocking the flow of energy between Yin and Yang.

You are disturbing change.

This is the worst solution if you want your hologram to transform itself to another stage.

Don't resist.

Let it flow.

Tao Te Ching Chapter 17-5
Doubt
When you lack in faith, there is doubt. (Ch.17)

♦  ♦  ♦

When you are lacking in the faith of Taoism, that is to say, you don't believe in Taoism, you surely doubt Tao's effectiveness of transforming your hologram (=the world).

It is up to you, but why don't you give it a try.

You will see how effective it is.

Tao Te Ching Chapter 17-6
Chuang Tzu’s maxim / No hurry
No hurry. Don't say a word lightly. (Ch.17)

♦  ♦  ♦

Let's decode this.

It means:

"Don't move until you are forced to."

You don't have to convince others.

感而後応

迫而後動

不得已而後起

(荘子 外篇 刻意 第十五)

Respond after you feel it.

Move after you are forced to.

Stand up after it is inevitable.

Tao Te Ching Chapter 17-7
I just let it happen
When task is completed and work done, everyone says: "I just let it happen".

(Ch.17)

♦  ♦  ♦

Though you are the one who creates their achievements in your hologram, people will

say:

"I don't know how it happened. It's a miracle. Probably, I did it without knowing it".

Let them say so.

Taoism's most effective way is to accept all.

"Although you hide your boat in a valley and the nets in a swamp, a powerful man may steal them and run away". (the 6th chapter in Inner Chapters, «Chuang Tzu»)

«Move after you are forced to. 迫而後動»

--荘子 外篇 刻意第十五--

You can find Chuang Tzu's maxim for lazy guys in «the Outer Chapters», which might not have be written by the philosopher himself. Never mind. The Japanese have been respecting the book for more than a millennium. Let's make robots work while we chill out.
