Tao Te Ching Chapter 20-16
Sea
Calm as if it were the sea. (Ch.20)

♦  ♦  ♦

Tao resembles the sea.

It is calm, but has plenty of energy inside.

Let's stop the beautiful comparison here,

though.

Otherwise, you would be Chuang Tzu's frog in the well.

If you think that Tao is the energy surrounding you, you are surely the frog.

Tao is the sea without its mass.

It is the energy without its volume.

So, you cannot be stuck in there.

You are the energy.

KEYWORDS

Was Godzilla "born" with a grudge? Surely, the monster had been asleep when human beings experimented a hydrogen bomb. He was just a gigantic animal asleep in the middle of evolution. In Akira Kurosawa's «Ikiru», was the man living with a grudge against bureaucratic work? Surely, the man was working to earn a living. He was in the middle of spiritual evolution. Godzilla left his body in Tokyo Bay. The bureaucrat left a small park for children. The director of «Godzilla», Ishiro Honda, worked as an assistant under Akira Kurosawa during the production of «Stray Dog».

Tao Te Ching Chapter 20-17
Kanreisu / High wind I
Hissing like high wind never being stopped. (Ch.20)

♦  ♦  ♦

Tao is like high wind, hissing all night long.

We feel like a child who thinks the storm will never end.

It is a beautiful way to say that Tao is energy constantly in motion.

But, like yesterday, we should stop the comparison here.

The word "energy" can be misleading as Lao Tzu thinks that any word is inappropriate to describe Tao.

This is the true key to understand Tao.

It is what Zen monks call Kanreisu 関捩子 (a bar/spring).

So, please, I beseech you, picture energy without time and space.

Can you?

Tao Te Ching Chapter 20-18
Purpose
Many people all have a purpose. (Ch.20)

♦  ♦  ♦

"Look at other people. Everyone has a purpose in his life. All

of them are useful

to each other.

Constructive, positive,

and energetic."

Don't worry.

Don't look down on yourself.

Stop imposing your interpretation on the other people.

They are your holograms, that is to say, illusions.

They have got only one purpose in this life.

It is to stimulate you.

So, why do you resist them?

Accept and love them, and you will emit the fundamental energy

Tao.

That's how you turn the world, which is your prayer wheel.

Oh my god, now you have got the only purpose, too.

Tao Te Ching Chapter 20-19
Incompetence
I alone am stubborn and incompetent. (Ch.20)

♦  ♦  ♦

Has anyone told you to be incompetent?

Lao Tzu does.

Be incompetent.

Ooohhh, what a relief! Isn't it?

You don't have to work hard to be competent from now on.

You are allowed to be stubborn as well.

Well, you don't have to be so unless you want to.

Lao Tzu's distant disciple, Chuang Tzu, gave us a maxim:

"Don't move until you are forced to".

迫而後動 -- 荘子 外篇 刻意 第十五 --

It is not important what you do stubbornly or incompetently with your hologram, which they call the world.

Tao Te Ching Chapter 20-20
I’m different
I alone am different from people. (Ch.20)

♦  ♦  ♦

Of course, you are different, not in the sense that everybody is different.

You are literally

different from the

others.

They are part of your hologram and you are the one who projects it.

The world is your movie and you are the director. (☞See Chapter 1b Life is a movie)

But be careful.

Don't mix true You and your own personal self.

This is also an important key to understand Tao and Zen.

True You are Tao.

Your own self is not.

It is part of your hologram like the rest of the world.

Tao Te Ching Chapter 20-21
Eat mother
And value eating the mother. (Ch.20)

♦  ♦  ♦

A: "Why don't we go to a restaurant and have a couple of mothers?"

B: "Fantastic! I adore a double cheese Big Mother with ice-cold Tsing Tao beer."

Lao Tzu asks you to eat the mother.

Of course, it is not a mother you know of by the word.

"The mother" signifies Tao.

You can call it "universal and unconditional Love", or the birth place of everything.

We "eat" Love the energy through our hologram, which is our life.

Life is a restaurant where they serve the mother.

Bon appetite!

Where is our «Snow Country»? Don't tell me the onsen hot spring resort is just two hours away from Tokyo station. Gala Yuzawa is not exactly the same as Komako's Yuzawa Onsen. Besides, Japan's social structure has changed since 1934, when Komako (a geisha "Matsue", probably) might have met Shimamura (the alter ego of the author Yasunari Kawabata). It no longer allows a Japanese man to stay in a hotel for weeks while paying for a geisha's daily charge. The spirit of «Snow Country» is diluted but has prevailed. Nowadays, many everyday girls at Akihabara or at Shibuya behave like Komako without a Shamisen guitar. With democracy, some privileges have disappeared. Have romances disappeared in commercial arrangements? Who knows. You are the one to find out in the land of geisha girls, or of Kitty Cat and Pikachu, depending on the way you look at the country.
