3. Do Nothing
[Chapter 3 / English Translation] - Click the line to watch the related video. If they don't respect intellectuals, people will stay away from contention.
If they don't value rare coins, people will stay away from theft.
If they don't look at what stimulates their desire, people's mind will stay calm.
Therefore, in the sage's way to control people, he empties the mind, fills the belly, weakens the will, and strengthens the bone.
Always, he keeps the people without intellect or desire.
This means that the sage refrains from acting.
Act without acting, and you will control all.
Rapid DecodedIf you don't analyse things intellectually, you don't have to suffer from the ordeals caused by dichotomy.
If you turn the hologram favourable to your benefit, the intention will work counterproductively.
If
you know that your desire does not belong to you and is just another
catalyst like stars and flowers, you don't have to feel unhappy when it
is not fulfilled.
Therefore, the sage controls his hologram by
avoiding reasoning, using Hara, weakening his will, and giving more
fundamental energy to the hologram.
This means that the sage does not act directly.
By accepting your hologram completely, you can control it perfectly.
[Note] Do nothing - 無為 in kanji / Chinese characters - pronounced [wu wei] in Chinese, [mu i] in Japanese. 無 [wu / mu] = nothing. 為 [wei / i] = to do.

Contents-3a Hara gei the belly art If you are a businessman working in Japan, you might have faced the situation, where A Japanese manager invites his client in an expensive Japanese restaurant and they eat and drink without talking about their business. This is the art of influencing the other without using words. It's Hara gei 腹芸.
-3b You and non-you The people of Zen invented an excellent thought instrument. It is <yourself under your control> and <yourself beyond your control>. Let's think what one can really control. There aren't many.
-3c Act without acting You don't have to do anything, really. We have been doing something useless for the sake of "doing something". Look at the results. Nature, economy, and society. All of them are crying for help. It is about time we changed our attitude.
-No Numbers [Practical Uses] What are numbers? Are they something concrete or abstract? Do they really exist? A great Japanese Zen master, Ikkyu's poem can explain what Buddha is. No numbers, please. We are Orientals.
[Related Articles] -Love your Trouble. Your troubles are part of your hologram. -Intelligence. Don't trust intelligence. Intelligence is counterproductive.
-No fight. Don't get up. Don't stand up. Give up to fight.
-Heaven's net. "Heaven's net is vast. Its mesh is not fine, but it doesn't lose any", says Lao Tzu.
-Starvation. "People starve because their king taxes them too much", but who is the king? If the king does nothing, people will be happy.
-Root. "Something heavy is the root of something light". "If you are restless, you lose the root". Don't move.

| ☞Let's ask Professor Daisetz Suzuki 鈴木大拙先生 three questions. "Can we live by Zen, sir?", "Can we live with Zen, professor?", and "Can we live Zen, sensei?". He would answer them with a rhetorical question: "Can we live without Zen, young man?". One cannot live without Zen. Whether you live by Zen or not, Zen is you.

| | Help Wanted -"Frustrated?"
Why don't you think the other way round?
-"I am not happy about how I look."
There are a few things to think about.
-"Are you scared of seeing your reports?"
To forget about statistics.
-"We need to change our way to grow foods."
If you are interested in organic foods, read about a modern-day Lao Tzu.
-"People talk about Zen, but what the heck is it indeed?"
Zen is nothing special. It is something you know well.
-"I am desperate. I need some solutions right away."
No worries. Here is a practical method.
-"I am confused when people tell me to face reality. What is it?"
A good question! Zen masters have been tackling the question for ages, but our old man knows the answer.
